Literature/Society. New Prescribed Texts and Topics

 

Dear Colleague

CCEA would like to remind you that the choice of prescribed texts and topics for examination at both AS and A2 has been amended for first examination in Summer 2006. These changes are clearly indicated in the Specification. The revised list of Texts and Topics, with new prescriptions asterisked, is laid out below.

 

For examination in June 2006

Module 3

Section A

Section A comprises three questions, each offering an alternative, on a range of

set texts. Questions focus on the overall theme, plot and basic characterisation.

König: Ich fühl mich so fifty-fifty dtv

 

Section B

Section B comprises three questions, each offering an alternative, on topics

reflecting German society.

The set topics are:

• Deutschland als Reiseland*

• Die Studie eines deutschen Films: Das Wunder von Bern (2003) von Sönke

Wortmann*

• Die Studie eines deutschen Films: Das Versprechen (1994) von Margarethe

von Trotta

The following texts and topics will no longer be examined at AS:

Böll: Best Stories

Ausländer in Deutschland

Österreich als Reiseland

 

Module 6

Section A

Section A comprises three questions, each offering an alternative, on a range of

set texts. Questions extend those skills introduced at AS by broadening the focus

on overall theme and plot to include in-depth study, character, author's style,

motivation and secondary themes.

The set texts are:

• Böll: Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum Nelson

• Frisch: Andorra Routledge

• Horváth: Jugend ohne Gott Suhrkamp/Nelson

 

Section B

Section B comprises three questions, each offering an alternative, on topics

reflecting German society.

The set society topics are:

Berlin 1945-1990: Geschichte einer Teilung

Die Weiße Rose*

Das Leben in der DDR*

The following texts and topics will no longer be examined at A2:

Brecht: Der kaukasische Kreidekreis

Plenzdorf: Die neuen Leiden des jungen W

Das wiedervereinigte Deutschland

Die presse im deutschsprachigen Raum

 

You are also reminded that the new Section C on Responsive Writing will be first examined at A2 in June 2006.

The support booklet, Notes for Guidance is being updated to reflect these changes and will be available to download from our website next month. In the meantime please find enclosed a copy of the guidance material for the new prescriptions.
