GCSE/ELQ Learning For Life and Work

As part of its support service to centres offering the above courses, CCEA is providing a Portfolio Consultancy Service in February. This service will provide feedback at a formative stage on aspects of the internal assessment process to enable teachers to mark portfolios confidently.

Evidence has shown that centres that take advantage of these services are less likely to be subjected to portfolio Moderation adjustments; therefore, those centres which had moderation adjustments in summer 2005 or where teachers are new to the specification are particularly strongly advised to take advantage of the service.

  • Centres are invited to submit to CCEA samples of work that have been provisionally assessed by the teacher for consideration by the subject Principal Moderator/Assistant Principal Moderator.
  • Only photocopied samples of candidates’ assignments should be submitted – ORIGINAL WORK MUST NOT BE SENT . The materials submitted will not be returned to centres.
  • In the case of GCSE Engineering and Manufacturing, only photographic evidence of 3-D work will be accepted.
  • In the case of GCSE Applied Art and Design centres should submit copies of samples of teacher-assessed live work. Photographs should be sent in the case of large, fragile or 3D work, indicating scale and colour and from several angles.
  • No more than three samples per unit per subject should be submitted and if possible should represent a range of mark bands.
  • Plans and suggested portfolio titles are also welcome for comment/guidance.

Please complete one of the enclosed Portfolio Consultancy Service Submission forms and return with your samples, in the prepaid envelopes provided or other suitable packaging to: Portfolio Consultancy, Moderation Section, CCEA, 29 Clarendon Road , Clarendon Dock, BELFAST , BT1 3BG . Should you need additional submission forms, please feel free to use photocopies.

The closing date for work to be submitted is Friday 3 February 2006 .

  • CCEA intend to dispatch all feedback to Centres in mid-February.
  • Details will follow of coursework support services for the new GCSE Mathematics Two Tier Modular Course and the new GCSE Modern Langauges Short Courses.
