GCSE Construction

Coursework Moderation Procedures

Dear Colleague,

In response to requests from centres entering candidates for GCSE Construction in the Summer 2005 series of examinations, the Principal Moderator produced amplification to the assessment criteria for Units 1 and 3. This amplification should be read in conjunction with the information in the Assignment and Assessment Grids for these Units on pages 19, 20, 25 and 26 of the specification. Its purpose is not to change the focus of the assessment, but rather to help internal assessors mark their pupils’ work more accurately.

A copy of the amplification is attached to this circular.

In 2005, visiting moderation took place. While this is necessary to assess the quality of the craft projects undertaken by the candidates, and will therefore again take place in 2006, the portfolios produced by the candidates for Unit 1 and Unit 3 will be moderated in the same way as for other product-type subjects. Instructions regarding the submission of samples of candidates’ portfolios will be sent to centres in April.
