Assessment Arrangements

End of Key Stage assessment is no longer statutory. CCEA continues to run the assessment arrangements as before for those schools that choose to participate. For all schools, including those who choose not to avail of this service, there will still be a need to provide information to CCEA relating to Language and Literacy and Mathematics and Numeracy for pupils in Years 4 and 7.

Key Stage 1

When pupils are assessed in Year 4, teachers make formal assessments of pupils' work in English and mathematics (in Irish-medium schools they are assessed in Irish and mathematics). Assessment Units are provided by CCEA to support this assessment. Moderation, where applicable, of teacher assessment is also undertaken on a three-year rolling programme by CCEA. Pupils are not required to sit formal tests.

Key Stage 2

When pupils are assessed in Year 7, teachers make formal assessments of pupils' work in English and mathematics (in Irish-medium schools they are assessed in English, Irish and mathematics). Assessment Units are provided by CCEA to support this assessment. Moderation, where applicable, of teacher assessment is also undertaken on a three-year rolling programme by CCEA. Pupils are not required to sit formal tests.
