AEA Physics
The Advanced Extension Award in Physics helps students develop and demonstrate a deeper understanding of physics than is required at GCE Level. It provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their depth of knowledge and understanding of physics through:
- applying the fundamental principles and concepts of physics, and a range of techniques, in analysing information and solving problems that are set in a range of contexts;
- bringing together and using knowledge of the ways different aspects of physics relate to each other;
- communicating ideas effectively, constructing arguments and solving problems in physics using a variety of forms and techniques; and
- evaluating information and evidence critically in contexts which are new to them, including those involving the applications of physics in society
Benefits of studying AEA Physics
Studying AEA Physics offers many benefits to students. In particular, it:- helps them prepare for degree level study of the subject;
- rewards students who study the GCE specification more widely;
- challenges and motivates students who are capable of going beyond the demands of the A2 examination;
- offers students the opportunity to score more UCAS points (this is particularly helpful for students applying for over-subscribed courses);
- helps universities differentiate between the most able students, particularly in subjects with a high proportion of A Grades at Advanced GCE; and
- can help build students’ confidence in their own knowledge and skills.
