GCSE in Physics
Physics is an exciting and interesting subject that helps us understand the phenomena and events of the world around us.
In our GCSE Physics course, students study diverse topics ranging from the smallness of the atom to the huge vastness of space. They find out how the scientific theories on our solar system evolved and how these were in conflict with the spiritual and cultural views of their time.
Through their work in physics, students begin to:
- understand major scientific ideas;
- appreciate how these develop and contribute to technological change; and
- recognise the cultural significance of science and its worldwide development.
Students plan and carry out a range of investigations and consider and critically evaluate their own data and that obtained from other sources. They also have to select, organise and present information clearly, using appropriate scientific terms and conventions and using ICT, where appropriate.
Students are encouraged to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of scientific and technological developments, including those related to the environment, personal health and quality of life, and consider ethical issues. This helps them become more confident in expressing their views and evaluating decisions about such matters.
GCSE Physics prepares students for the study of physics and physics related subjects at GCE Advanced, Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Vocational certificate of Education.
