GCSE Physics offers two tiers of entry: Foundation Tier and Higher Tier. Students entering for the Foundation Tier are eligible for the award of grades C-G. Students entering for the Higher Tier are eligible for the award of grades A*-E. This allows students from a wide ability range to demonstrate achievement.

Both the Foundation Tier and Higher Tier courses are divided into six sections of study:

Section 1: Energy

Section 2: Forces

Section 3: Waves, Sound and Light

Section 4: Electricity and Magnetism

Section 5: Radioactivity

Section 6: Earth in Space
