Revised GCSE in Physics

This revised GCSE Physics specification is available for first teaching from September 2011. We will make the first awards in 2013.

We are now offering this specification as a unitised course. This increases flexibility and choice for teachers and students.

The course encourages students to:

  • develop their interest in and enthusiasm for science;
  • develop a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods;
  • acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works and its essential role in society; and
  • acquire scientific skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for progression to further learning.

The specification prepares students for the study of physics and related subjects at a more advanced level, for example Advanced Subsidiary Physics and Advanced Physics.

For those progressing directly into employment, a GCSE in physics is relevant not only to the fields of science and engineering, but also to areas of commerce and public service that value problem-solving and practical skills.
