There are three examinations in GCE Applied ICT. All are externally set and externally moderated. The table below outlines exam content for each of these:

AS Unit 2	Software Application and Tools	2 ½ hour computer- based exam	Scenario type questions. Students must recommend and justify the use of particular ICT tools. Students must also demonstrate: an understanding of how ICT systems are used in a business context; and a working knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and communication technology .
A2 Unit 7	Investigating Systems	2 hour exam	The exam is based on a case study, which is published on the Internet prior to the exam. Students can research the case study in advance of the exam. The exam paper tests knowledge of the unit using a broad range of questions related to the content of the case study. Students are tested on their ability to practically apply systems analysis and design tools.
A2 Unit 13	Networking and Communications	1 ½ hour exam	Students are tested on their knowledge of network design and problem-solving skills at Local Area Network and Global level through Internet technologies. Students are tested on their knowledge of how to: transmit and receive data using electronic methods; locate, select and retrieve electronically stored information effectively; understand topologies and logical structures; and understand management issues, including the implications for security and backup, user rights and file permissions.

understand topologies and logical structures; and
understand management issues, including the implications for security and backup, user rights and file permissions.

Students may sit exams more than once when an entry is made for certification. The best result will count towards the final award.
