Q. What awards are available in this specification?
A. There are four awards available through Applied ICT at GCE Level:

  • AS (3 units);

  • AS Double Award (6 units)

  • GCE (6 units); and/or

  • GCE Double Award (12 units)

Q. Is there a choice in the units that can be studied?

  • All units for the AS Single Award and AS Double Award are compulsory.

  • The GCE Single Award comprises 4 compulsory units and students must also complete two out of five optional units.

  • The GCE Double Award is comprised of nine compulsory units and students must also complete three out of five optional units.

Q. What are the weightings of each unit?
A. All assessment units have an equal weighting of 16.66 percent.

Q. How many written papers do I have to sit?
A. The exams for GCE Applied ICT are outlined below:

AS
There is one computer-based exam lasting 2½ hours.

AS Double Award
There is one computer-based exam of 2½ hours.

GCE
There are two exams for GCE – one computer-based exam of 2½ hours and one written exam lasting 2 hours.

GCE Double Award
There are three exams for GCE Double Award – one computer-based exam of 2½ hours, one written exam lasting 2 hours and one written exam lasting 1 ½ hours.

Q. How much coursework has to be submitted?
A. The coursework requirements for GCE Applied ICT are outlined below:

  • AS (two pieces of coursework);

  • AS Double Award (five pieces of coursework);

  • GCE (four pieces of coursework);

  • GCE Double Award (nine pieces of coursework).

Q. How is coursework marked?
A. The coursework portfolios are internally assessed by each centre and externally moderated by CCEA.

Q. Can a student re-sit modules?
A. Assessment units may be taken more than once, with the best result counting towards the qualification.

Q. What are the prerequisites for this course?
A. The specification builds on the foundations laid by the GCSE ICT specification and the GCSE Applied Double Award ICT specification currently offered by CCEA. However the course of study in AS and A2 ICT can be undertaken by students entering the vocational area for the first time, and these may be delivered on either a full-time or part-time basis.
