Preparation
The case study is available four weeks prior to the exam. Print off a copy as soon as possible.
Thoroughly prepare for the exam. You need to:- revise your knowledge of the contents of Unit 1. This will help you answer the exam questions;
- familiarise yourself with all the basic software tools, including those used for spreadsheets, desktop publishing, file management and multimedia;
- practice exam techniques by completing past papers; and
- carefully read the pre-release material. This sets the theme for the January and subsequent May exam sessions.
Sitting the Exam
- Read each question carefully. Remember - the questions have been set out to guide you through each task.
- Make sure each piece of printed work is clearly marked with the following details: - your student number; - the centre number; and - the task number.
- Make sure that all relevant data is visible on printouts.
- Be careful when using databases - all data and information must be added accurately. When creating a report, form or other document, ensure that the correct data source is used: either table or query. All relevant data must be visible.
- Make sure you apply good file management systems. All files must be saved in the exam folder on your work area. If you are told to save your work in a particular folder, make sure you save it to the correct place.
- Remember to use your desktop publishing/word processing skills. All documents must have a professional appearance.
- When using spreadsheets you must:
- have a knowledge of the basic spreadsheet functions;
- be able to use different formulae and be able to enter formulae in the correct format; and
- print gridlines and cell references for every spreadsheet.
- You must be able to use a variety of different types of media and effects to enhance a presentation and give it a professional appearance. The presentation should have a navigation route which matches the instructions you will be given.
