Unit Four is examination in Entry Level Art and Design. It is presented in the form of an externally-set Controlled Theme or Task and takes place at the end of the course.

The Controlled Theme or Task presents both themes and specific questions for each of the seven areas of study. Students must respond to one of the themes or questions. This is the student’s opportunity to show what he or she has learned throughout the course.

Students are to complete the work for the Controlled Theme or Task unassisted, and this work must be carried out in an area of study already covered in the coursework.

Preparatory work should be presented, along with the final outcome, for marking.

The Controlled Theme or Task is internally marked and a sample will be externally moderated.

There is no specific time allowance for this examination. However, 10 hours is suggested for guidance.

Further downloads can be found in the support section. A sample paper can be found in the specification.
