What is the theme for this year's coursework component?

The coursework theme for assessment/moderation in 2011 is “Growth” and the theme for assessment/moderation in 2012 will be “Disguise”.

When will the schools receive the terminal examination paper?

Schools will receive the terminal paper in December 2007 for examination in 2008. Students should not be given the paper to start their work until January 2008.

Is it necessary to carryout the examination in an area already covered in coursework?

Yes, as this will give the students the best opportunity for a successful outcome.

How much time is required to complete the terminal examination?

You, as the teacher, can set the time for the terminal examination to suit your student's individual needs. The terminal examination can take place during class time or during a period specially set aside for it. (Ten hours is a guideline only, suggested by CCEA).

How many teaching periods per week are necessary to fulfil the requirements of this specification?

This is something that is decided by each school. CCEA has no minimum or maximum recommendations.

Will a student receive more marks if they produce final outcomes for their coursework units?

Not necessarily. Students will receive credit for the breadth of their experience rather than for the production of a final outcome.

What value has the Entry Level qualification got for students?

The Entry Level Qualification rewards students who would otherwise leave school without recognition of their achievement in art and design.

How is work selected for moderation?

CCEA will produce a computer generated sample. This will be sent out to schools before the moderation process is due to take place.

When will the moderation process take place this year?

The moderation process takes place between 26th April and 3rd May 2006. The moderator will contact the school and agree a time for their visit.

Can a student be entered for both GCSE and Entry Level Qualification?

Yes, provided they fulfil the requirements of both specifications.

Is there any public exhibition of the work produced by students of the Entry Level Qualification?

Yes, on the CCEA Art & Design Entry Level Micro-site there will be a gallery of work. This gallery will be updated regulary and will represent the best work produced in any year.
