Students must complete one coursework assignment. This assignment is internally assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by our moderators. This assignment is worth 20 percent of the student's final grade.

Students must agree the assignment topic with their teacher in advance. If the teacher chooses to allow it, students can also work in groups on the assignment. However in this instance, each student must still submit an individual piece of work.

The assignment gives students the opportunity to carry out their own research and investigation. The assignment topic must relate to a business situation, and students must submit the assignment in either handwritten or printed form. The assignment should contain approximately 2500 words. Students must also use ICT to select, organise, interpret and analyse the information they collect.

The final submission must be organised in a logical and systematic fashion. We suggest the following format:

title and aim of assignment;
method (how the assignment has been approached);
selection, presentation and analysis of information;
evaluation and conclusions;
bibliography; and
appendices.

Some suggested coursework assignments include the following:

A vacant retail unit exists in your local business park. Investigate and reach conclusions about a potential business opportunity for this unit.
You are a business consultant. A local company asks you to examine its current selection and recruitment procedures and to draw conclusions with recommendations, where appropriate.
