Paper 1 Written Examination (40%) 2 hours

Section A: Candidates will be required to answer three questions on one of the set texts. A clean copy of the set text may be used.

Extracts of 10-15 lines from the set texts will form the basis of Questions (a) and (b).

Question (a) will focus on an aspect of design, either costume or set. (20 minutes, 10 marks).

Question (b) will require candidates to write performance notes for a short extract from a set text (30 minutes, 20 marks).

Question (c) will require candidates to write about the use of rehearsal work to develop an aspect of character or theme with reference to the whole text. Candidates will be expected to refer to two rehearsal methods, two drama strategies and their practical experiences of the text (40 minutes, 30 marks).

Section B: Candidates will be required to answer one question relating to the text studied in Compulsory Internally Assessed Unit 1: Scripted Performance.

Question (d) will focus on two of the following: costume, props, voice, movement, facial expression, gesture (30 minutes, 20 marks).
