(PDF), Last Updated: 31 October 2011
Students must complete one written exam for GCSE Drama. We set and mark the exam. It is worth 40 percent of the final award. The exam lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and tests students on Unit 1: Understanding Drama. It is available in summer only.
The paper focuses on a set text. The eight set texts are:
- Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare);
- Pygmalion (Shaw);
- Juno and the Paycock (O’Casey);
- The Crucible (Miller);
- Philadelphia Here I Come (Friel);
- Tea in a China Cup (Reid);
- Blood Brothers (Russell); and
- Across the Barricades (Lingard).
Students must answer three questions:
- two questions on one of the set texts; and
- one question relating to the text they have studied in the compulsory element: Scripted Performance.
They may use a clean copy of the set text in the exam. No additional sheets, pages or annotations may be included in the texts.
For more information, see the specification.
