GCSE Controlled Assessment

Portfolio clinics

Centres are invited to avail of the Portfolio Clinics; this is a service offered by CCEA and its moderating team. It is available for:
* GCSE English
* GCSE English Language
* GCSE English Literature

Centres are invited to submit a small sample of their students Controlled Assessment work at this time. The closing date for submission of work is Monday 11h February 2013

Q. What is the purpose of the Portfolio Clinic?
A. The Portfolio Clinic is an early opportunity for centres to assess the accuracy of their marking (in Controlled Assessment tasks) in relation to the CCEA standards, prior to the final submission date in May. By submitting a small sample of candidates’ work centres can have the pieces/folders moderated by a CCEA moderator and be furnished with specific feedback on the accuracy of their marking, for example indicating if their current marking is accurate, lenient or severe. Consequently the submitted folders/pieces can then be used as benchmark work by the department.

Q. How does the Portfolio Clinic work?
A. Centres will receive an invitation, inviting them to submit a small sample of their centre’s work; please note the following recommended quantities for each subject:

  • GCSE English: 2 complete folders or 10 individual pieces of work.
  • GCSE English Language: 3 complete folders or 9 individual pieces of work.
  • GCSE English Literature: 4 complete folders or 8 individual pieces of work

The final submission date for the Portfolio Clinics is Monday 11th February 2013.

These clinics will then be run in CCEA where all the work and pieces submitted will be moderated and reviewed by the top moderating team. Centres will receive feedback on their submissions as soon as possible after this moderation process is complete.
