GCSE Controlled Assessment
Portfolio clinics
A reminder that Portfolio clinics will be available in February 2012 for GCSE English Language, English Literature and English. All centres will receive an invitation allowing submission of a top, middle and bottom marked folder for each subject. This will allow centres, if they wish, to receive feedback on marking prior to the first submission of marks in May 2012. The submitted folders can then be used as benchmark folders for the department. As we moderate marking based on complete folders this advice clinic will work on the same principle. All work must be with CCEA by 3 February 2012.
Instructions to Teachers: Teacher Assessed Components
The Instructions for Teachers: Teacher Assessed Components Booklet for GCSE English Language, English Literature and English, updated for Controlled Assessment, will be available from the microsite in January. Hard copies will also be dispatched to all centres.
GCSE English/English Language/English Literature
Themes for Controlled Assessment for moderation from 2013-2017 are now available. Posters were sent to the Examinations Officers in all schools in the May dispatch, but are also available to download
GCE English Literature
Chief Examiner Reports (2011) are now available to download free online.
Revised GCSE specifications for English Language and English Literature
Spoken Language: The sample scheme of work has been updated to include activities based around the use of the British Library’s Learning online resources www.bl.uk/learning/langlit. The Sounds Familiar? section contains resources relevant to The Study of Spoken Language. For other aspects of GCSE study there is also Poetry & Performance and Texts in Context.
FAQs: The Frequently Asked Questions section for each specification is updated regularly. Please refer to this for helpful information on delivering the controlled assessment tasks. This further supplements the material available in the Teacher Guidance Document.
Teacher Guidance: A Teacher Guidance Document on Controlled Assessment is available for each specification. This gives you further detail on the tasks outlined in the specification. It elaborates on the controls for each task and the opportunities for centres to contextualise tasks. It also gives general advice on the management of Controlled Assessment.
Launch events for the revised specifications were held in March 2009. View the presentation given on the days.
Moderation of Coursework
The ‘Instructions to Teachers’ booklet for teacher assessed components should be in schools by the end of February. You can also access a copy of the booklet through the coursework section of the microsite.
Written coursework samples will be collected from centres early in May. This year the TAC 1 form is in OMR format. Instructions giving guidance on completion of these OMR forms is at the back of the ‘Instructions to Teachers’ booklet.
