Key Stage 3

Pupils aged 11-14 will be studying English for a test at the end of Key Stage 3. Teachers will have designed schemes of work based on the Programmes of Study for English at Key Stage 3. Courses at Key Stage 3 provide opportunities for pupils to improve skills in:
Talking and Listening
, Reading, Writing.

CCEA does not prescribe texts for study but normally pupils will study a range of literature including novels, poetry and drama. Additionally, pupils should continue to develop awareness of audience and purpose, reading and responding to a range of media and non-literary material. Pupils will also engage in oral work such as class and group discussions and presentations, using technology when appropriate.

Experience of a comprehensive range of activities in English at Key Stage 3 provides an excellent foundation and preparation for study at Key Stage 4.
