Online tests (EGOML) FAQS
Q. When can we move to an on-line test?
Q. What do I need to do to register for on-line tests?
A. In order to register for the online tests, centres must enter their candidates using the Online Entries system.
This is a completely new system, which can be accessed by centre examinations officers using a Username and Password.
If you require a username and password for the system, please contact Roisin Radcliffe at CCEA (rradcliffe@ccea.org.uk).
The system has 2 screens only and provides a straightforwarsd entry system for users.
It will enable you to:
- Specify Subject
- Specify level
- Specify that you wish to enter for on-line tests
- Use template spreadsheet to create file of candidates E)Save file and submit entries to CCEA.
Please download the Instructions for online Registration
Q. What support will CCEA provide?
A. Training events will take place for all centres in October/ November 2009. Please refer back in September for dates. Alternatively, you may wish to contact Roisin Radcliffe at CCEA (rradcliffe@ccea.org.uk).
Q. Can I try out sample tests in all of the languages?
A. Yes. For information purposes, we have developed sample tests for each language. The sample tests provide centres with an opportunity to see the types of questions, to trial the system; however they differ in that they combine questions for reading writing and listening, whilst the live test is composed of separate tests for each skill.
Q. Has the content changed?
A. No. The content remains the same for the time –being.
Q. Will the content change in the future?
A. Yes. We are currently revising the specification for GOML, to bring it up to date and to align it with the objectives of the Revised Curriculum. This work is well underway and a draft will be available for consultation in 2009.
GOML FAQS
Q. Where can I find information about the conduct of GOML assessments?
A. Please refer to the GOML section of the Examinations Administration Handbook that you can find on our microsite.
Q. What changes have been made to the GOML assessment documentation?
A. The new approach will be similar to CCEA’s examinations process and will use moderation documents relating to teacher-assessed components. For example, the large Attendance/Mark sheet previously used for GOML is replaced by the pre-printed attendance mark sheet TAC 1 and centre record sheets. The centre record sheet indicates scores for each GOML assessment. These scores are then totalled and transferred to the TAC 1 form.
Candidates whose assessments are to be included in the sample for moderation will be indicated on a separate report issued with the stationery. The sample will therefore be representative of the centre as a whole and moderator feedback using the Centre Report forms (TAC 6) will in future reflect the centre-based approach.
Q. What is the closing date for entering for the GOML tests?
A. The closing date for all electronic or manual entries for the Winter series is 21 October and for the Summer series 21 February. Please refer to the Timetable Section for specific dates for the current series.
Q. Why are entries no longer done by teaching group?
A. Following requests from our centres, we have extended our electronic entry system to include GOML assessments. The moderation system will reflect this by moving to a centre moderation approach which means entries will no longer be made by teaching group.
Q. What do you mean by centre moderation approach?
A. Where there is more than one teacher assessing in a particular language level an internal standardisation exercise needs to be conducted to ensure that similar standards are being applied by different teacher assessors. TAC2 forms will be provided with the stationery for centres to report that internal standardisation has taken place.
Q. I have to send completed GOML papers to CCEA for moderation. Do I send all papers completed or just those requested by CCEA?
A. Candidates whose assessments are to be included in the sample for moderation will be indicated on a separate report issued with the stationery. CCEA offers a special collection service for the completed samples. Please refer to the Timetable Section for dates.
Q. I must select 2 role-plays for the Speaking test. Can I select one from Set A and the other from Set B?
A. No. If Set A is chosen then both role-plays should be taken from this set, likewise for Set B. It is important that both role-plays for the one candidate are selected from the same set. (Selecting one role-play from Set A and one from Set B for the same candidate could result in a candidate being examined on two similar role-plays.)
Q. What should I do if one of the candidates listed on the sample report for moderation is absent for the Speaking test?
A. If any of the candidates listed are absent for the Speaking Test, please substitute with the next candidate on the pre-printed attendance mark sheet TAC 1.
Q. When can I expect to have the GOML papers delivered to my school?
A. GOML papers for the Winter series should be in schools in November. For the Summer series, the relevant material should be in schools in April. Please refer to the Timetable Section for specific dates for the current series.
Q. My students sat their GOML tests in May. We have received the results but not the certificates. When can we expect these?
A. Due to administrative procedures GOML certificates cannot be issued at the same time as the results. You should expect to receive your certificates 4 weeks after confirmation of results. Please refer to the Timetable Section for specific dates for the current series.
Q. I am preparing my students for their GOML tests this summer. Can I get a hold of past papers for practice?
A. Our Distribution Section holds a bank of past papers and will distribute them to you on request; however this is subject to availability. To request past papers please contact Distribution on 028 9026 1228. Delivery may take up to 14 working days from the date past papers are requested. These papers are free of charge.
Q. What is the entry fee per candidate for a GOML test? Are there any other charges?
A. Please refer to the GOML CHARGES Section on the Exams Handbook Microsite for payment information for the current series.
