GCSE Applied Science (Double Award)
Through studying GCSE Applied Science, students learn how science is applied in the workplace. They investigate scientific workplaces to discover what scientists do and find out how institutions and companies use science in a wide range of functions.
Students use experimental and laboratory techniques in a range of vocational contexts. This allows them to gain confidence and competence using scientific instruments and equipment and it also encourages them to develop independent learning skills as they solve scientific problems.
Our GCSE Applied Science (Double Award) qualification is an excellent springboard for further training, further education and/or future employment within the science sector. Many students with a qualification in Applied Science go on to study GCE, VCE, GNVQ’s or BTEC Firsts in science and science-related subjects. The course also enables students to undertake further training such as Modern Apprenticeships or NVQs in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities, Laboratory Technicians: Working in Education and/or Clinical Laboratory Support.
