Entry Level in Geography

Our Entry Level Geography qualification is an excellent way for students to demonstrate achievement. It is designed for students who have not reached Level 3 of the Northern Ireland Curriculum by the end of Key Stage 3 and for whom GCSE and equivalent vocational qualifications are not yet considered appropriate.

Through studying Entry Level Geography, students learn about the world in which they live: from the geographical patterns of the natural earth to the influence social, economic and political events have on the environment.

Students also learn about different traditions on a local and global scale and about the opportunities, challenges and constraints that face people in different places. This increases their understanding and respect for cultures throughout the world.

Entry Level Geography gives students the opportunity to gain the skills necessary for making informed and reasoned judgements on contemporary geographical issues and problems. Students are encouraged to assume a sense of responsibility for the environment at local, national and international levels. Through carrying out investigations, students also acquire map work, fieldwork and ICT skills.

Entry Level can then lead on towards further learning and qualifications. Many students go on to study geography and related courses at a higher level.
