Q. What is the deadline for submission of sample work for Unit 1?
A . The sample for Unit 1must reach CCEA by the time specified during the Autumn Term of Year 1. (CCEA will circulate schools with the dates for submission).
Q. When must I submit the final submission of my students work and what exactly will this consist of?
A. By early May of the final year (Year 2), a ll centres will be required to send in to the Moderator their sample, which will consist of unit and class record sheets, and a sample of all written work together with an additional recording of Unit 6 to add to the recording of Unit 1.
Q. Can I send photocopies of my students’ sample work rather than the originals?
A. No, the sample work you send for moderation should be candidates’ original work, not a photocopy.
Q. Do I send the sample work directly to the Moderator or to CCEA?
A. CCEA will inform you of your assigned Moderator in late February and you must you May samples directly to him/her. Unit 1 samples should be sent directly to CCEA.
Q. When can my students expect to receive their results and certificates?
A. Results will be issued during the summer term of year 2. Certificates will be issued in September.
Q. How can I get any materials that I require? Eg. extra task booklets, unit mark sheets, specification?
A. In the Summer Term preceding Year 1, teachers will make initial entries to CCEA. CCEA will then forward to schools the materials needed to start the course in September.
These will comprise:
• Cassette for Listening tests.
• Answer booklets for pupils. (This will also contain vocabulary.)

Irish vocabulary lists are not contained in the Answer/Task booklet but are part of the specification.
Q. What should I do if one of the pupils whose work was used as a sample in Unit 1 is absent or has left at final Moderation?
A. In these circumstances another candidate’s work should be submitted and a written letter should accompany the work explaining the change. When selecting another candidate please remember that you should ensure that coursework samples represent the full range of ability, ie the candidate with the highest mark, the candidate with the lowest mark and two from the middle range.
Q. What marks are required for each grade/level?
A. The total marks for each Unit is 40 and the final total for the whole course is 400 marks. For more information on the breakdown of these marks please refer to the specification.
