The table below summarises the tasks for Unit 4:

Unit Nature of Assessment(s) Details

Unit 4:
Two Historical Investigations

One written task

  • Set by us.
  • Lasts 40 minutes.
  One visual presentation
  • Set by teacher.
  • Students must agree a topic with their teacher, prepare a visual display on the topic (using, for example, drawings, paintings, photos, IT generated graphics, etc.), present a short talk on their topic, and answer questions from the class.

One interview

  • Set by teacher.
  • Students must choose one or two people to interview about the historical investigation they are studying, prepare questions, and report findings to the teacher either orally or in written form.

If the period studied does not allow students to interview people who were alive at the time, the teacher may interview the students about the study or the teacher may play the role of a person alive at that time and answer the students’ interview questions.

Students must show understanding of chronology and the key features of the period, societies, and events studied.

One research task (based on source material).

  • Set by the teacher
  • Students must find out information about material provided by the teacher and report their findings (how, in what format?). We recommend that students use ICT skills for both the research and presentation components of this task.
