GCSE in History
GCSE History examines 20th century world history in both a local and global context. Students learn about relations between Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland; The Cold War; and either Germany, Russia or the USA.
As the course charts the rise and fall of leaders, students develop an understanding of:
- the impact of war on nations and economies;
- how government and society can be rebuilt;
- international relations;
- social reforms; and
- the spread of communism.
GCSE History challenges students to understand why certain events/actions took place and present logical conclusions of their findings.
Throughout the course, students gain an insight into the multi-faceted values, attitudes and perceptions that have shaped, and continue to shape, human behaviour. They learn how to analyse problems and formulate solutions as well as develop empathy and an understanding of today’s society. They also develop a host of transferable skills including critical thinking, planning and presenting information in a clear, concise and organised way. All of these attributes are highly sought after in the work place, making history students great employees.
