The GCE History specification is divided into two levels: AS and A2.
The AS Level can be taken as a stand-alone course without progression to the A Level. However students wishing to obtain the GCE qualification must complete both levels.
Each level, AS and A2, contains two required units of study:

For each unit, teachers must choose one study option. Each option reflects a different historical topic and period. Descriptions for each unit’s options are detailed below:
