This specification is for first teaching from September 2016.

History of art explores some of the most significant developments in western art, architecture and design from classical Greek and Roman times to the end of the twentieth century. It brings to life, in visual form, aspects of human history such as society, religion, philosophy, politics, science and technology. It ranges from learning about whole societies to understanding the enduring impact of individual innovators and visionaries. For today's increasingly visual society, it develops skills in interpretation, analysis, critical appraisal and communication.
