At Entry Level, students must complete one written examination. We set and mark the examination. It takes place in March, lasts for one hour and is worth 40 percent of the total marks available.

Students are tested on all three sections of the course content. Additional details appear in the table below:

Paper 1 1 hour
  • All questions are compulsory.
  • Students must answer a number of:
    – short-answer questions;
    – multiple-choice questions;
    – data-response questions;
    – structured-answer questions; and
    – free-response questions.
  • In some questions, students are given guidance regarding the nature of the responses and the number of points required.
  • Some questions or part-questions require students to respond to stimulus materials. The stimulus materials are presented as text, diagrams, pictures, graphics and/or statistics.
