GCE in Home Economics

GCE Home Economics is a stimulating subject that allows students to acquire (through both practical and theoretical contexts) knowledge and understanding of:

  • nutritional advice;
  • diet and health education;
  • the influence of social, cultural, economic and environmental factors on consumer behaviour; and
  • food preservation, production and safety.

The course also allows students to develop as discerning consumers who are able to make informed choices, manage available resources and understand how decisions are made.

GCE Home Economics provides the basis for further study of Home Economics and related subjects in higher education. In addition, it provides a basis for those seeking employment in a wide range of careers in business, industry, education and health and social services.
