GCSE in Home Economics

GCSE Home Economics focuses on nutrition, food choice, diet and health within the context of home and family. Students gain knowledge and understanding of nutritional advice, the nutritional needs of family members throughout their life and of diet-related conditions such as cancers and coronary heart disease.

Through studying Home Economics, students learn how to think critically, make informed choices, develop practical food skills and manage resources.

GCSE Home Economics also opens up a wide range of opportunities for further and higher education. Many students go on to study GCE Home Economics or GCE Health and Social Care. Students with Home Economics qualifications also go on to have interesting and rewarding careers in teaching, dietetics, consumerism, product development, environmental health, food technology, nutrition, marketing, journalism, social work and catering.
