GCSE Health & Social Care
(Double Award)
GCSE Health and Social Care is a vocational qualification that offers students knowledge and understanding of the health, social care and the early years sectors. Through the course, students investigate and evaluate the range of care services and the organisations that deliver them. Students get an insight into working in health, social care and early years services as they examine the job roles of the practitioners who work in care services. Students are expected to apply their knowledge and skills to real-life scenarios. This teaching approach promotes critical and analytical thinking and encourages students to take part in problem-solving.
Students also examine:
- how individuals develop physically and emotionally;
- the important stages of development and the influence relationships have on personal development; and
- the factors that affect health, well-being and personal development including smoking, housing conditions and relationships.
What can students do with a qualification in Health & Social Care?
Many students with a Health and Social Care (Double Award) GCSE go on to study GCE, VCE GNVQ’s and BTEC Firsts and Nationals in health and social care and related subjects. Other students go on to complete training courses, for example an NVQ in Health and Social Care.
