What are the specifications?

There are four specifications for ICT GCSE:

  • CCEA ICT Full Course (Foundation)
  • CCEA ICT Full Course (Higher)
  • CCEA ICT Short Course (Foundation)
  • CCEA ICT Short Course (Higher)


How is the Full Course (Foundation) assessed?

  • 6 pieces of coursework
  • 2 exam papers (1 hour each)


How is the Full Course (Higher) assessed?

  • 6 pieces of coursework
  • 2 exam papers (1 hour and 1½ hours)


How much is the coursework worth?

Coursework is worth 60% of the final mark for all specifications.



How much are the exams worth?

Exams account for 40% of the final mark for all specifications.

 

Can I do the coursework at home?

Coursework should not be done at home unless under exceptional circumstances. Your centre needs to make sure the work is your own.

 

What is the highest grade I can get in each specification?

  • Full Course (Foundation) – Grade C
  • Full Course (Higher) – Grade A*
  • Short Course (Foundation) – Grade C
  • Short Course (Higher) – Grade A*


Can I still pass the course if I don’t complete a piece of coursework?

It depends on how much coursework you miss.

 

If I need to re-sit any exams do I need to complete new coursework?

No. Coursework marks can be carried forward for the life of the specification.

The Internet is a good source of revision material. You can use the following online resources:



Can I use my coursework for another subject I am studying?

Yes. But you will need to produce one separate copy for each subject. You may also need to alter the work to match the criteria specified by each subject.

 

What type of questions are in the exam papers?

The best way to get a clear idea of the nature of exam questions is to have a look at past papers.

 

Can I get my coursework back after it had been marked?

Yes but only at the appropriate time. Coursework will be sent back to centres when we are satisfied with all candidate results.

 

Can I study ICT beyond GCSE level?

Yes. ICT and Applied ICT are available at both AS and A level.
