Task Approval

Schools are required to design their own tasks for the KS3 ICT accreditation scheme. The tasks should come from learning and teaching going on in relevant curricular contexts which provide pupils with the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in using ICT skills. When designing your own tasks, help is available for you in the form of an online Task Writing Tool which can also be accessed on the website. Each task needs to be submitted to CCEA for approval prior to using it as part of assessment.

Please refer to Appendix 7 Revisers’ Report 2009/2010 for support on the information required in the Task Writing Tool. Appendix 8 provides an example of a worked-up task.

Training during 2010/2011 will focus on providing support to school in the process of submitting tasks for approval.

All tasks must be approved by CCEA before being used. To do this, you must use the Task Writing Tool below to create and submit your task.

Making a Judgement

The KS3 ICT Accreditation Scheme allows for recognition of pupils’ competence in Using ICT at the end of the Key Stage.

Assessment evidence must be drawn from at least two Areas of Learning. For the purposes of this accreditation scheme teachers will make a holistic ‘best fit’ judgement about the level which best describes a pupil’s progress and performance in Using ICT.

As each school will have different combinations of subjects contributing to the assessment of Using ICT, it is recommended that schools devise their own model for internal standardisation and agreement. It is important to begin this process at the task-planning stage.

While standardising within your own school, it is important to ensure that the 5 ‘E’s have been covered and that there are not any obvious gaps in the pupil portfolios. If necessary, other information such as teacher observation may be used as supporting evidence. Schools may wish to use Assessment Manager to aggregate levels for pupils. Following internal standardistaion, you are required to submit the levels that you wish to award via EDI transfer.
