Using the Levels of Progression

The UICT Levels of Progression should be used to inform you about your pupils’ progress and assist you in making judgements about the levels at which pupils are working. The levels are the bulleted statements in the Levels of Progression Grid and are presented in columns from Level 1 to Level 5. The Levels of Progression are aligned to the Requirements (in the grey area on the left hand side of the document) and are colour coded to help you track progression.

The Levels of Progression describe the types and range of performance that pupils working at each level should demonstrate. When judging a pupil’s level of UICT competence you should select the level statements which best fit your pupil’s work over a period of time. This judgement should be verified by careful comparison with the levels immediately above and below. Remember that levels of progression build successively on the knowledge, understanding and skills of lower levels which are, therefore, subsumed within them.
