Moderation
What does a School Portfolio need to contain?
Two pupils for each level...
A School Portfolio will be made up of Pupil Portfolios. You need to send in two Pupil Portfolios for each level that you are assessing. So, for example, if your school has assessed pupils at Levels 2, 3 and 4 you need to send in:
Choose solid level portfolios...
- two pupil portfolios at Level 2,
- two pupil portfolios at Level 3; and
- two pupil portfolios at Level 4.
You can select the pupils whose portfolios you would like to send for Moderation. When selecting these pupils, we advise that you select carefully those whose work exemplifies the level as solidly as possible. Remember that the purpose of moderation is for CCEA to confirm that you and your colleagues have understood the levels.
End of Key Stage Pupils only...
The work you include in your School Portfolio must be drawn from the cohort of pupils being assessed in that academic year, i.e. at the end of the Key Stage(s). However, the work included in the Portfolio can include ICT tasks carried out by those same pupils in previous years, provided the work is at the level which the Pupil Portfolio is being submitted for.
At least one Pupil from KS1 if you have registered for both Key Stages...
If your school has registered to carry out the accreditation with KS2 only, then only the portfolios of some Year 7 pupils will be required. If your school has registered for KS1 and KS2, then you will also need to include the portfolio of at least one Year 4 pupil.
Include a completed School Portfolio Summary Record form...
You must include a completed School Portfolio Summary Record Form. This can be downloaded from this website. On this form you must tell us your details and the details of the content of the School Portfolio. Without this form, the moderator will not be able to identify the work easily.
What does a Pupil Portfolio need to contain?
The samples of work in each pupil portfolio should be based on the CCEA ICT Tasks or your own CCEA-approved tasks.
You should ensure that each Pupil Portfolio contains the following:
The 5 ‘E’s
A Pupil Portfolio should demonstrate the range and breadth of ICT experience that a particular pupil has had across the 5 ‘E’s.
A Pupil Portfolio must have evidence of all of the 5 ‘E’s.
Please Note:
For this school year, 2010/11, the following change regarding ‘Exchange’ has been made to the Portfolio Requirements regarding coverage of the 5 ‘E’s:
Explore 1 & 2, Express, Evaluate, and Exhibit must all be covered at the level of the portfolio.
However, as Exchange is still a relatively new area of ICT, it will be acceptable for this year to include evidence of Exchange at a level that is lower than the rest of the Portfolio.
In other words, a Pupil Portfolio must demonstrate that the pupil has had some meaningful experience of Exchange, although this may not necessarily be at the same level as the rest of the Portfolio.
Desirable Features
It should also provide evidence of the range of experiences of different types of ICT that the pupil has had.
Please Note:
For this school year, 2010/11, the following change has been made to the Portfolio Requirements regarding Desirable Features:
For Moderation, a Pupil Portfolio must show evidence of coverage of a number of Desirable Features:
Levels 1 & 2: Must show coverage of a minimum of four different Desirable Features
Levels 3, 4 & 5: Must show coverage of a minimum of five different Desirable Features
For all levels, at least one Desirable Feature must be from List B.
Forms
Each Pupil Portfolio should contain a completed Pupil Portfolio Record Form. This is the ONLY form that needs to be included in the Pupil Portfolio.
This form lets the moderator know about the pupil and about the tasks completed by that pupil which are included in the portfolio. Essentially, this form should be used by the teacher to inform the moderator of the learning process that the pupil went through, including evidence of where the pupil Exchanged, Evaluated and Exhibited their work especially where this is not evident in the final piece of work. These teacher comments are of vital importance to the moderator. Without them, the moderator cannot get a full picture of the process carried out by the pupil.

Evidence of Pupil Work
Any pupil work that is being included in a portfolio needs to be accessible by the Moderators who will be working outside of your school network. Some tips to remember are:
- 1089.89-38.09-57
- When you are saving the pupil work, you may need to ‘publish’ or ‘export’ it, for example in the case of PhotoStory3 or MovieMaker
- When sending a website (for example using Spider), you need to also send the images or sound files that are featured on the site, as well as the html file.
If you are unsure, try uploading your file on another computer to test if the file plays/opens correctly. See ‘Software Support and Technical issues’ section for more details and help and advice. It may be useful to include screen dumps as evidence where appropriate, for example for Logo or Online Collaboration work.
What should a Pupil Portfolio NOT contain?
A Pupil Portfolio should not be a collection of pieces of work from several pupils, but should demonstrate the range and breadth of ICT experience that one particular pupil has had.
A Pupil Portfolio may contain some work at a higher level but it where possible should not contain work at a level that is lower than the level of the portfolio. For example, a Pupil Portfolio submitted for moderation at Level 3, should not ideally contain any work at Level 2. See the answer for the question: ‘If some of the evidence within a Pupil Portfolio is deemed to be at the level lower than the rest of the portfolio, will my portfolio be unapproved?’ within the ‘Moderation’ tab to the top left for more advice on this
A Pupil Portfolio should not contain work from any tasks that are not CCEA Tasks from the current ICT Accreditation Scheme or tasks that have not been approved by CCEA prior to submission.
A Pupil Portfolio does not need to include copies of the actual CCEA Task. The Moderators will have copies of the Tasks to refer to. This will ensure that the file size of your overall School Portfolio is kept as small as possible.
