Examinations
Students must complete two examinations for GCSE Manufacturing. The exams each last 1 hour, and together they are worth 40 percentof the final award.
We set and mark the exams. They test students’ knowledge and understanding of Unit 3: Manufacturing Technology. They are available in January and summer.
Paper 1 lasts 1 hour. It tests students on their knowledge of the use and impact of:
- ICT;
- automation;
- components;
- modern materials; and
- control technology.
Students are also tested on their knowledge and understanding of products, tools and equipment associated with the manufacturing industry.
Paper 2 lasts 1 hour. This paper is based on pre-release materials. It tests students on their research into a product specified in the pre-release materials.
