Assessment Objectives
Entry In Entry Level Mathematics, we assess students against four assessment objectives. The assessment objectives require students to show knowledge and understanding of the course content as well as demonstrate skills and abilities in performing mathematical tasks. The objectives are:
| AO1 | Using and Applying Mathematics; |
| AO2 | Number and Algebra; |
| AO3 | Shape, Space and Data; and |
| AO4 | Handling Data |
The four assessment objectives assess the students’ ability to:
- recall, apply and interpret mathematical knowledge in the context of everyday situations;
- carry out practical and investigative work;
- respond orally to questions about mathematics;
- follow instructions to complete a task;
- select the mathematics and/or materials to complete a task;
- perform simple mental calculations;
- carry out calculations accurately using pencil and paper;
- use an electronic calculator;
- estimate in a range of contexts;
- recognise and extend simple patterns in shape and number;
- recognise and describe simple shapes;
- give directions for movement;
- understand everyday systems of measurement and use associated measuring equipment;
- organise and present data in tabular and simple graphical/diagrammatical form;
- extract and use data from lists, tables, simple diagrams and graphs.
More information on the assessment objectives is available in the full specification.
