Modules
Each of the four mathematics qualifications requires students to complete a selection of study modules. Some of these are compulsory and some are optional.
At the AS level, students must complete three modules. To obtain the Advanced GCE qualification, students must complete six modules (three at AS plus an additional three at A2 or, alternatively, four at AS and two at A2 (for GCE Mathematics only)).
There are 13 modules in all. These are:
- 4 Core Modules (addressing Pure Mathematics) C1, C2, C3, C4
- 3 Further Pure Mathematics Modules F1, F2, F3
- 4 Mechanics Modules M1, M2, M3, M4
- 2 Statistics Modules S1, S2
Note: the assessment unit for module S2 is designated as S4 for historical reasons.
Within each award, each module is equally weighted. Modules C1, C2, F1, F2, M1 and S1 and S4 are assessed at AS Level. All other modules are assessed at A2 level.
More details on the individual modules, their respective topics and related guidance notes are available in the full specification.
