We have attached the Chief Examiner Reports for the Pilot Two Tier Mathematics specification. The new Two Tier 'No Coursework' Mathematics specification from January 2008 will be very similar to these. The main difference will be more questions on Handling Data which in the pilot specification was partly assessed through coursework.

At each tier, students must sit two tests: a module test and a completion test. Each test consists of 2 papers: one with-calculator paper and one non-calculator paper.
The module test is worth 44% of the total award. The completion test is worth 56% of the total award. The tier of entry is determined by the choice of completion test.
Students may take these two tests together at the end of the course as a linear examination, or they may take them at different sittings as a modular course.
Students sit the following papers at each test and tier:
| Foundation Tier | Test | Papers | Target Grades | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Module Test | N1 Or N2 | N1 1 N1 2 |
Non-calculator With calculator |
G – E |
| N2 1 N2 2 |

E – C | ||
| Completion Test | N5 | N5 1 N5 2 |
Non-calculator With calculator |
G – C |
| Higher Tier | Test | Papers | Target Grades | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Module Test | N3 Or N4 | N3 1 N3 2 |

Module tests N1, N2, N3, and N4 are timetabled at the same time on the same day. Completion tests N5 & N6 are timetabled at the same time on a different day. All tests are available in both January and June.
Each test assesses students on the four assessment objectives. Using and Applying Mathematics (AO1) is assessed within the question papers in contexts provided by the other assessment objectives.
Questions are set in context, where appropriate, and some questions require the unprompted solution of multi-step problems.
In each test, there is at least one question for which students must give the appropriate units of the answer. And in each test, there is at least one question for which students must give the answer to an appropriate degree of accuracy.
More information on the tests is available in the full specification.
