GCSE Portfolio Clinic
We are again running a GCSE Moving Image Arts Portfolio Clinic in February 2012.
This will be an opportunity for teachers to trial mark a top, middle and bottom portfolio for both Unit 1 and Unit 2. It is likely that most of you will not have completed the second Task for Unit 1 or the main film for Unit 2. You are nonetheless invited to submit the most comprehensive folders which you currently do have but to a maximum of 3 candidate folders per unit.
The closing date for submission is Friday 3 February 2012.
To receive full instructions and the relevant paperwork, please email the Specification Support Officer Nola McLarnon on nmclarnon@ccea.org.uk
MIA GCSE Summer 2012 Examination Set Texts Update
As noted in the forthcoming Summer 2011 Chief Examiner’s Report, we will henceforth be informing all centres each year of the three set texts that will be featuring in the Summer examination of that academic year.
The three set texts which will feature in the 2012 GCSE online examination will be:
Wallace and Gromit in A Close Shave (1995) Dir: Nick Park
William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet (1996) Dir: Baz Luhrmann
Bride of Frankenstein (1935) Dir: James Whale
Centres will be informed of the set texts that will feature in the 2013 Examination in Autumn 2012.
This notification will henceforth be posted on the news and events page in September each year.

Moving Image Arts A2 2012
Set Texts and Mock Texts Update
We would like to confirm that the 2012 set texts for A2 Moving Image Arts will be the same as those set for 2011. The set texts for next year will therefore be:
Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982) Dir. Ridley Scott
Psycho (1960) Dir. Alfred Hitchcock
We have taken on board feedback from teachers at support events during the year which supported the extension of set texts into a second year of teaching.
This amendment remains adherent to the requirements of the specification and the A2 set texts will continue to be reviewed annually.
We would also like to remind all teachers of the set texts for the A2 Mock Examination in January:
These are still The Cabinet of Doctor Calagari (1920) Dir. Robert Wiene and The King’s Wake (1999) Dir. John McCloskey.
The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari is on general release and can also be viewed at a number of sites on the internet.
If you wish to purchase a copy of The King’s Wake contact Sharon or Maura at The Nerve Centre and they will be happy to help - sharon@nerve-centre.org.uk, m.mckee@nerve-centre.org.uk or (028) 7126 0562.
Copyright and Consent Forms Now Available
Beginning with the 2010 series, all candidate filmmakers must complete and return three copyright forms as part of their coursework/controlled assessment. These are:
MIA-PR1
PDF 98KB
MIA-FR1
PDF 73KB
MIA-EC1
PDF 158KB
All forms are now available to candidates here, in the Support section of the microsite and via the GCSE ePortfolio.
The first form (PR1) must be completed by every performer in a production (including speaking/non-speaking cast, narrators, and voice over performers in animations, etc). It gives the filmmaker legal permission to record their performance and to reuse that performance in the film for the specified purposes.
The second form must be completed by the candidate filmmaker. It grants CCEA legal permission to display their final film on the Moving Image Arts microsite.
The last form must be completed by the candidate filmmaker in order to record and report all third-party works appearing in their film.
Please note that PR1 and FR1 are legal contracts, and so all relevant parties are encouraged to read thoroughly before signing.
More details, as well as guidance on collection and retention of these compulsory forms, are available in the Instructions to Teachers for Internally Assessed Work.
Unit 1 tasks may be submitted in Summer 2011.
Marks and work must be submitted using the e-Portfolio as per instructions received at the compulsory e-Portfolio training day at CCEA on the 29th January 2010.
It is recommended that candidates upload work into their e-Portfolio no later than one week before the submission deadline.
Video compression tutorials added
Please check our new video tutorials for compressing your GCE and GCSE films and exercises. You will find them in the ‘Support materials’ tab of the GCE and GCSE pages respectively or click here for the tutorial in Final cut or here for the tutorial in iMovie.
