In GCE Music, students must complete listening tests and written examinations. We set and mark all of the examinations.

Students must complete one listening test and one written examination at both AS and A2 Level.

The examinations test students on their:

  • ability to make critical judgements about unfamiliar music including:
    – the use of musical elements;
    – structures and resources across a range of styles;
    – genres;
    – periods; and
    – traditions;
  • knowledge and understanding of set extracts from works related to the compulsory area of study; and
  • knowledge and understanding of one of the three optional areas of study.

For more detail on examinations, see the full specification.
