Examinations

In GCE Music, 62% percent of the marks are awarded for making and appraising music.

At both the AS and A2 levels, students must complete one making and appraising assessment option from a choice of four. The choices are:

Option A: core solo/ensemble performance + composition task;

Option B: core solo/ensemble performance + multi-tracking task;

Option C: core solo/ensemble performance + sequenced arrangement task; or

Option D: core composition task + solo/ensemble performance.

Performances also include a viva voce. Composition and music technology tasks also include a commentary.

The units are designed so that students can choose the assessment option that best suits their skills and strengths.

Those students who are more skilled at performance may want to select Options A, B or C for the AS and A2 tasks, as these award more marks to performance than composition.

On the other hand, those students whose strengths lie in composition may want to select Option D for their AS and A2 tasks, as this awards more marks to composition than performance.
