Students must complete two listening and appraising examinations. Each exam lasts 45 minutes and is worth 15 percent of the final award. There are questions on familiar and unfamiliar music.
Paper 1 tests students on the core area of study: Repeated Patterns in Music. Students must answer five questions. Three of these focus on the core set works. One question is based on unfamiliar music linked to the core area of study, and the other is linked to the impact of the music industry on work and leisure.
Paper 2 tests students on two chosen optional areas of study. Students must answer six questions: two questions on each of their areas of study and two questions on unfamiliar music linked to their areas of study.
For more information, see the specification.
