- Despite being a bright and sociable scholar in her younger days, as she grew older she became increasingly solitary.
- She wrote letters to a wide range of people and she included many of her poems in these letters.
- Dickinson used common language in startling ways to “distill amazing sense/From ordinary things” and from “familiar species”.
