Q. Do students need any prior level of attainment to be able to take this course?
A. No, students do not need any prior level of attainment or experience to take this course.
Q. Are there any prohibited combinations for this award?
A. Yes, GCSE full course students must NOT combine:
any two of the following three units:
- 3.1 The Christian Church through a Study of the Catholic Church and One Protestant Tradition;
- 3.2 The Christian Church with a Focus on EITHER the Roman Catholic Tradition OR the Protestant Tradition; or
- 3.3 The Revelation of God and the Christian Church,
or any two of the following three units:
- 3.3 The Revelation of God and the Christian Church;
- 3.4 Christianity through a Study of the Gospel of Matthew; or
- 3.5 Christianity through a Study of the Gospel of Mark.
Q. Can students resit any assessment units?
A. Yes, students can choose to resit individual assessment units once.
The better result for each assessment unit will count towards the GCSE qualification. Results for individual assessment units remain available to count towards a GCSE qualification until we withdraw the specification.
Q. Are students assessed on the quality of their written communication?
A. Yes, students must demonstrate the quality of their written communication. In particular, they must:
- ensure that text is legible and that spelling, punctuation and grammar are accurate so that meaning is clear;
- select and use a form and style of writing appropriate to their purpose and to complex subject matter; and
- organise information clearly and coherently, using specialist vocabulary where appropriate.
Examiners assess the quality of students’ written communication in their responses to questions or tasks that require extended writing. The examiners assess the quality of written communication within all assessment objectives and examination components in this specification.
Q. What grades can students be awarded through following this course?
A. We award GCSE qualifications on an eight grade scale from A*–G, with A* being the highest. For students who fail to attain a grade G, we report their results as unclassified (U).
We report the results of individual assessment units on a uniform mark scale that reflects the assessment weighting of each unit. We determine the grades awarded by aggregating the uniform marks obtained on individual assessment units.
