Coursework

Students must complete one coursework project, which is worth 80 percent of the final award. The coursework is set and marked by the class teacher but we moderate it. Moderation takes place in May of the final year of the course.

The coursework project focuses on the area the student has chosen to study:

  • Food Technology;
  • Graphic Products;
  • Resistant Materials Technology;
  • Systems and Control Technology ; or
  • Textiles Technology.

The theme for the 2007/08 project is Teenage Leisure and Recreation. Students must:

  • produce a design portfolio (including an evaluation of the work); and
  • make one piece of practical work.

In the design portfolio, students must show evidence of their ability to:

  • investigate;
  • develop designs; and
  • communicate their ideas.

Through making their work, students must demonstrate their ability to:

  • select materials;
  • make their product;
  • organise and plan the project; and
  • evaluate the project.

Teachers can support and guide students by using structured prompt sheets to help them meet the assessment criteria.
