Coursework
Practical Work Tips
This specification offers a wide range of opportunities for students to show their skills whilst at the same time gaining new experiences and challenges.
Teachers and students should make use of the following tips when completing the Making (practical work) portion of the coursework:
| Product Complexity | Teachers can often influence the standard achieved during manufacturing of the product. At Entry Level, a well-finished, simple solution is better than an unfinished, complex artefact. |
| Teacher Assistance | We encourage teachers to offer students assistance and to guide them in the right direction. |
| Project Theme | The theme for the project is quite wide-ranging. Students tend to achieve higher marks when the project both reflects their interests and fulfils the assessment criteria. |
| Materials | To realise their project, students may use any suitable material or combination of materials available in the school workshop. The project should reflect the highest standard of craftsmanship that they are capable of. |
| Assessment | For the purposes of assessment, the student should normally carry out the coursework during the five terms leading to the examination.
Students should present their best quality of work, which should reflect a wide range of experiences and show evidence of their involvement in the whole design and realisation process. |
