On-line Developments for Controlled Assessment
CCEA are looking at ways of improving our service to you by introducing new on-line developments across more specifications. The introduction of Controlled Assessment and the changes with the new GCSEs is a good opportunity to “roll out” practices which we have been piloting over the last few years.
One such development is the e-Candidate Record Sheet (e-CRS).
Background
The e-Candidate Record Sheet is a method of completing candidate record sheets and submitting them directly to CCEA by computer (from home or school).
It has been piloted since 2006. In 2008/09 56 centres took part in the pilot. 3 GCSE subjects were involved; ICT, English Literature, and Home Economics. In 2009/10 the use of e-CRS was expanded to include available controlled assessment unit in the revised GCSE specifications. There were 199 departments across 134 centres participated in 11 components/units in Summer 2010.
Based on the learning from Summer 2010 it has been decided that using e-Candidate Record Sheets in Summer 2011 will be optional for the majority of units, however, it will be compulsory for some subjects as shown below.
2010/11
Head of Departments and Examinations Officers have been notified of the optional and compulsory units/components. Centres wishing to obtain access to e-CRS before February 2011 should contact CCEA (contact details below). After February 2011 Examinations Officers will have the facility to provide this access via the centralised login management system.
Optional Units available for e-Candidate Record Sheet pilot in Summer 2011.

Advantages to using e-CRS
- The risk of error is reduced because all calculations on the candidate record sheet are done automatically.
- There is less to fill in because centre and candidates' details are filled in automatically.
- There is no duplication because:
- marks are submitted through e-CRS so no TAC1 forms are needed; and
- Internal Standardisation information recorded on e-CRS system so no TAC2 is needed.
