Belfast Tunnel

As part of the CCEA Learning for Life and Work Engaging Employers’ initiative, 8 Learning for Life and Work teachers from both Grammar and Secondary schools throughout Northern Ireland went underground on Wednesday to the Belfast Tunnel.  The experience had by teachers will be shared with approximately 4,355 pupils that they teach, providing insight into the variety of opportunities available within this sector.

Hosted by Construction Skills NI the teachers experienced first hand ‘The Belfast Sewers Project’ which is due for completion in 2010.

Led by the Engineering and Planning Manager from Morgan=EST Farrans JV the group of teachers descended into the main terminal pump station drywell which is 35 metres deep.   Experienced personnel involved in the project were at hand to describe the scope of the project and the range of personnel involved and were keen to reiterate that career opportunities in this part of the construction sector remain positive, despite the recent downturn in residential construction.
