Local pupils test their Employability skills during EmployabilityFEST 2008

Asset Skills and local employers have joined forces with CCEA at East Tyrone College to show pupils from Dungannon and Cookstown schools what Education for Employability is really all about.

As part of the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment’s (CCEA) EmployabilityFEST, a range of interactive activities were scheduled to show pupils how they can use their employability skills in different ways and in different job roles.

Speaking from the event, Melanie Mulligan, CCEA commented;

“When developing Employability skills, there is nothing better for pupils than seeing for themselves how these skills are needed in the world of work. They have participated fully in today’s activities and enjoyed every minute of it.

Assets Skills proactively contacted CCEA expressing their wishes to contribute to FEST ’08. I am enthused by the level of commitment that exists in Northern Ireland to strengthening the relationship between education and the world of work.”

Tara Morris, Skills Development Manager, Asset Skills commented;

“The activities we have set up are designed to help pupils learn how to solve problems, follow instructions, manage budgets and much more. The activities are set in context and encourage the pupils to think of how these skills are applied in different job roles from car Salesperson to Town Planner.

By developing these practical employability skills, they will be in the best possible position to take full advantage of the opportunities that are presented to them in Northern Ireland and beyond.
