Progress in the Arts: Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3
Friday 16 May 2008
The Progress in the Arts microsite is an evolving resource intended to provide support and guidance for teachers delivering The Arts Area of Learning within the Northern Ireland Curriculum. It contains suggestions for activities in Art and Design, Music, and Drama, from Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 3.
Materials available, many of which have been designed by experienced practitioners and their pupils, are aimed at practitioners with varying degrees of confidence and experience. It is especially relevant for newly qualified primary teachers who require hints and tips for planning and running arts lessons. It also assists teachers who are teaching classes at the transition point between key stages. Teachers can use the site to gauge what sort of experiences pupils may have already had and also to plan for lessons that will continue to provide stretch and challenge.
The site is a celebration of best practice and a source of stimulation and encouragement for creative ideas. Over time, the microsite will grow and develop with a range of examples of pupils’ work being added and information from teachers on activities which have worked for them.
